Dr. Govind Singh Bisht has been practicing as Medical Officer since 1992 and Foot Care Specialist (Podiatrist) since July 2001, and is widely credited as the pioneer who introduced the concept of a specialized Podiatry clinic in India for the first time — long before foot care existed as a distinct medical specialty in the country.
Over more than two decades of practice, he has examined and treated 20,000+ diabetic patients for foot-related conditions, and successfully treated 3,000+ cases of 'diabetic foot' involving limb- and life-threatening complications — helping patients avoid amputation through early, specialized intervention.
A career built across Indian and international healthcare institutions, Special Olympics International.
With over 100 million diabetes patients in India and 1 Lakh+ annual amputations due to complications, preventive care is crucial. Diabetes delays wound healing, making feet highly vulnerable.
"If you have diabetes, take care of your feet as you take care of your face."
Nearly 60% of diabetics suffer from a loss of sensation. Watch out for:
Inspect your feet every day for cuts, redness, or swelling.
Clean your feet daily with lukewarm water and mild soap.
Always dry your feet well, especially between the toes.
Use cream for dry skin, but avoid applying it between the toes.
Wear wide, well-cushioned shoes with cotton or woolen socks.
Cut nails straight across. Avoid deep cutting to prevent injuries.
Never use hot water bottles, heating pads, or soak feet in hot water.
Do not use over-the-counter corn caps or try to cut corns/calluses yourself.
Exercise regularly as advised by your doctor to improve blood flow.
Never ignore cuts, blisters, or infections. Avoid self-medication and consult a doctor immediately.
